Current health care reform through Medicare and the ACA is being scripted by politicians, thought leaders, and big business, all of which is pushing medical care down a precarious and expensive road. Practicing primary care providers, both nurse practitioners and physicians, should be the linchpins of any successful health care reform efforts, and yet we are left out of all such efforts. 85% of practicing primary care doctors feel that they have no impact on their medical environment, over 50% report severe burnout, and currently only 20% of medical students are entering primary care. Nurse Practitioners are equally frustrated. All of us are feeling the pinch of "reforms" that have added cost and time burdens to our practices at the detriment of our ability to truly care for our patients.
The mission of PCAC is to empower practicing primary care providers to impact positive changes in health care that will improve patient care, reduce cost, and enhance satisfaction.
It is time for Primary Care Providers to be Steering Health Care Reform Efforts!
PCAC will work on a global national agenda to help spearhead health care reform that is driven by primary care practitioners. Working with groups like Lown, we hope to be a force in reform.
Follow the PCAC blog where we will discuss the current health care enviroment, changes that may impact primary care and our patients, and what we believe should be done.
